Cm7 — the C minor 7 guitar chord
Cm7 is mellow and jazzy, and like Cm it’s rare to find in open position at all. The index lies flat across two strings while the pinky reaches over it, the trickiest grip of these open chords. Go string by string: both E strings stay silent, and every fretted note should speak.
How to play it
- Index finger flattened across the D string (4th) and B string (2nd), 1st fret.
- Ring finger on the A string (5th), 3rd fret.
- Pinky on the G string (3rd), 3rd fret.
- Don't strum the low E string (6th) and high E string (1st). They stay silent in this shape.
