Dmaj7 — the D major 7 guitar chord
Dmaj7 sounds soft, warm, and a little wistful. One finger lies flat across three strings at the 2nd fret, which makes it a friendly introduction to barring. The barre tends to buckle and kill the high E, so press with the flat pad of the finger and strum only the top four strings.
How to play it
- Index finger flattened across the G string (3rd), B string (2nd) and high E string (1st), 2nd fret.
- Let the open D string (4th) ring.
- Don't strum the low E string (6th) and A string (5th). They stay silent in this shape.
