Gmaj7 — the G major 7 guitar chord
Gmaj7 keeps the brightness of G but rounds the edges off. It’s the G family shape again, two fingers on the outer strings with the A string silent on purpose. The reach across the neck is wide, so check that the open middle strings aren’t caught under either finger.
How to play it
- Index finger on the high E string (1st), 2nd fret.
- Ring finger on the low E string (6th), 3rd fret.
- Let the open D string (4th), G string (3rd) and B string (2nd) ring.
- Don't strum the A string (5th). It stays silent in this shape.
